More About this Item

Description: 1835 PARIS. Coupon d'Action de F500. black on pink paper. No 413. Large format, with several heavy folds and small splits (repaired). Formed in Paris, 1838, to exploit a 15-year brevet for a new means of propulsion of ships on the Rhône. The Rhône, with its strong currents and varying water-levels, was always a problem for the transport of passengers and merchandise up-river. The rewards for any inventor/engineer able to find an effective solution to this problem were great, and many tried, but none really succeeded, and in time the arrival of the railways solved the problem of Rhône transport. This is a scrip for 500Fr. for half a share, to be put with another for the issue of a full share of 1000Fr. A vignette of a ship using the hydro-motor system, but not giving any indication of how it worked. Verydecorative border, with symbols of navigation and commerce.
