Folio: [559 (of 570)] ff. (B1, 3-4, Ll 1, 6 index ff. missing, 1 blank f.; mod. pencil foliation, occ. somewhat short, staining and traces of use, top margin soiled, title and final f. underlaid, a number of margins strengthened, fore-edge margin f. 2 partly torn off with loss of border ill. and a central tear crudely repaired, some marginal tears, f. 41 with loss of text in bottom inner margin, a few old marginal annotations). - Very early ed. (1st 1488) of the Czech Bible revised by Jan Hus (1369-1415) and the first to be printed outside Bohemia, edited by Jan Gindrzysky of Saaz and Thomas Molek of Hradec, and financed by three wealthy citizens of Prague for the use of Utraquists or Calixtines. Printed in 2 col. in Gothic type with guide-letters. Xylographic title, featuring two angels and a large emblem of Prague. Woodcut frame (repeated later) to Jerome’s preface surrounding woodcuts of Ambrose and Paulinus. Some 100 woodcuts throughout including many designs by Lucantonio degli Uberti, incl. a full-page woodcut of the Creation with 6 scenes. Rubricated throughout. Hand-drawn coloured initial "B" pasted at beginning of text f. 2r; two initials in red and blue on A1v and Aa2r. - Ref. Old blind-stamped leather over wood, edges bevelled inside, gilt-titled spine with 5 raised bands, remains of catches (rubbed and partly worn, rebacked, clasps and catches gone, later endpapers).

Auction - Terms of sale

The purchaser shall pay, strictly cash, the hammer price, in €, together with a premium of 25 %, eventually plus the resale tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from € 2000 on, only for original art and if the author died less than 70 years ago.
The auction follows the order indicated by the catalogue. The biddings start at about 80 % of the lowest estimate and each bid must be +/? 10% higher than the previous one. In case of a dispute the lot will be called again.
The auctioneer has the right to refuse a bid, and this without further explanation.
Each buyer by making a bid acknowledges the conditions of sale and the fact that he has inspected the purchased item.
The auctioneer has the right to split a lot or join several lots.
Lots with two or more titles, series or periodicals, or lots with a mention "n.c." and 'sold w.a.f.'are not collated and cannot be returned.
Each buyer is supposed to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission. Each bidder should inspect the lots during the exhibition. Under no circumstances can an item, once sold, be returned. For lots bought via a bidding order remarks or complaints, also concerning the authenticity of the items, should be formulated within 2 weeks after the auction. After that delay no item can be returned.
