Description

Original vintage fold-out travel advertising brochure Festival of Britain 1951 Britain at Home to the World May - September 1951. The Festival of Britain was a national exhibition and fair that reached millions of visitors throughout the United Kingdom in the summer of 1951. The 1951 festival focused entirely on Britain and its achievements; it was funded chiefly by the government, with a budget of £12 million. The Festival's centrepiece was in London on the South Bank of the Thames. The cover features The Festival Star, the graphic symbol designed by Abram Games, (1914 – 1996), a famous British graphic designer. Games was one of 12 artists invited to submit designs to the Arts Council and the Council of Industrial Design in 1948 and won the limited competition. Includes London Programme and UK map with the list of exhibitions and art festivals. Printed in for H.M.S.O. Warlow & Sons, Ltd.
