Description

C. Winston Haberer (Kentucky, 1905 - 1958), "A Kentucky Stream," etching on paper, signed lower left and titled and editioned 7/50 at lower left, measures 5.50 x 8 inches to the plate mark, measures 11.50 x 13.50 inches framed. CONDITION: Good. Louisville native C. Winston Haberer was instructed in etching by Alexander J. Van Leshout at the Louisville Art School and in Chicago at the Art Institute school and the American Academy. Haberer and his mastery of printmaking were the subject of a Newsweek magazine article in 1941. He was a member of the famous American regionalist group the Prairie Printmakers, along with such artists as Gustave Baumann and Gordon Grant. He captured scenes all over Kentucky. Haberer prints are in the collections of the Library of Congress, the Smithsonian Institution, the New York Public Library and the Art Institute of Chicago.
