Notes

The attribution has been confirmed by Paola Pacht Bassani who has identified the present work as preparatory for the artist's larger canvas in the Musée des Beaux-Arts, Algiers (see P. Pacht Bassani, Claude Vignon, Paris, 1992, pp. 280-1, no. 159, illustrated). She dates both works to the early 1630s on the basis of the stylistic similarities between these and the artist's Family of Darius before Alexander which is dated 1633 or 1635 (location unknown; ibid., p. 280, no. 158).

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
