Item Overview

Description

Crea O'Donnell is an artist from Limerick who is based in Wickham St. Studios and also teaches second level art. She mainly works with painting. She has an BA (Hons) in Painting and a Professional Masters of Education in Art and Design with Digital Media both from the Limerick School of Art and Design. By applying abstraction, she creates intense personal moments masterfully created by means of rules and omissions. She works in an expressive way while simultaneously using a strict modus operandi resulting in organic contours merging with geometric structure. The results are deconstructed to the extent that meaning is shifted and possible interpretation becomes multi-layered much like the way she paints. By emphasising aesthetics, she seduces the viewer into a world of ongoing equilibrium. By choosing mainly formal solutions, she tries to develop forms that do not follow logical criteria, but are based only on subjective associations and formal parallels, which incite the viewer to make new personal associations. Multilayered images arise throughout her work questioning spaces and how they are viewed.
