More About this Item

Description: August 1934 BERLIN. Stammaktie über 300 RM. brown, green, black. No 32584. After amalgamation of Mercedes and Benz in 1926 to form Daimler-Benz, the new company continued the production of high-quality models followed by its predecessors. Although the company's top models were not racing-cars but fast tourers, they competed with success in the racing world of the late 1920s and early 1930s. 1930 saw a large 8-cylinder 7.7-litre model, but the economy class appeared in 1931, doubtless reflecting the market in the Great Depression. In 1934 Mercedes-Benz took up racing again, and won most major races up to WW2, achieving amazing speeds for the time. The Benz works at Mannheim was used for production of passenger cars at Stuttgart-Untertürkheim. During WW2 the factories produced for the military, and were destroyed byair-raids late in the war. The postwar history of Daimler-Benz is well-known.
