THE LADY OF SHALOTT signed oil on canvas 26a by 48in. 67.3 by 121.9cm. Wynfield studied with J.M. Leigh and lived in St. John's Wood, London, where he founded the St. John's Wood Clique. He exhibited at the Royal Academy during the years 1859 and 1887, displaying his pictures inspired by 16th and 17th century British history. Wynfield was also an important Victorian photographer, and is considered a pioneer in this field.
