Description: The clay fine and exquisite, the glaze smooth with a moist appearance, the finishing meticulous. The gently curving sides rising from a short slightly tapering foot, the exterior decorated in sgraffiato design, molded and carved, to reveal lower layer of the ground before firing. Depicted a harmony of descending phoenix and ascending dragon amongst flames and clouds, the rim containing a further invocation band of leafy tendril. The immaculate porcelain body covered with a characteristic silky glaze, pooling on the base slightly veiling the firing mark. The under base left unglazed revealed the pale-creme ground with grayish-brown and darker spots in the firing.
