More About this Item

Description: 8 Juin 1796 LA DYLE. BRUXELLES. Emprunt Forcé - Récépissé. black. Generally worn condition with heavy folds with tears, edge-splits, some paper loss, coupon 6 taped back on the cert. Bond for 50 francs, paid to the state under the terms of the forced loan. For reimbursement, the document originally had ten coupons for 5 francs each. They were accepted by the tax authorities in part-payment of tax due in the following 10 years. The piece we offer still has 6 coupons. This forced loan was issued all over the French Republic. Interestingly, this particular bond wasin Brussels, than under French occupation (and capital of the French Département de la Dyle). As such certainly rare. Dated 20 Prairial and 4 according to the French revolutionary calendar. Converted, this is 8 Juin 1796.
