Notes
In response to why the painting is titled as above under the artist's signature recto and inscribed verso with the name of the Connecticutt own where Carl Nicholas might have met the artist and purchased it, David Nicholas responded by email as follows: My Uncle Carl (William C. Nicholas), who spent fifty years on Broadway (from DuBarry Was a Lady with Ethel Merman and Bert Lahrin the late 1930s to My One and Only with Tommy Tune and Twiggy in the late 1980s with a hiatus during World War II to tour in Irving Berlin's This Is the Army, bought the painting from the artist in Connecticut, not New York City, if I recall correctly. Carl lived in Manhattan all his adult life, but regularly spent weekends and stolen moments when he was in a show with friends in Connecticut
