Although a resident of Notting Hill and later Havistock Hill, Girardot exhibited regularly at the Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin between 1874 and 1890. The present example displays the hallmarks of his work as he often favoured romantic female subjects in an interior and was adroit as a painter of drapery.
