Item Overview

Description

363. MICHAEL FARADAY (1791-1867) English chemist and physicist who discovered the properties of electromagnetic induction, and rotation and devised several methods of generating electricity. Fine A.L.S. "M. Faraday" 3pp, 8vo, Hampton Court, September 20, 1859, to Mr. Crawford in Scotland. Faraday, enamored with his vacation away from England, writes in part: "...Amongst all the recollections that flow in upon my mind now I have returned home, none is more pleasant than those which relate to our visit to you at Glasgow; and I owe very deep thanks to you and your dear wife for the kindness shewed towards us. I scarcely know who to write to in the expression of them; but as my wife is writing to yours, I write to you; I cannot however separate you in this...This morning I have had a letter from her from Dunkold. She speaks of the Glasgow happiness with great pleasure. I hope Mrs. Crawford will tell our friends where we are, i.e. if they feel any interest in our whereabouts...". Lightly toned, mailing fold, otherwise in very good condition. $400-500
