Fritz Beckert (1877 Leipzig - 1962 Dresden). Der letzte Markgraf. 1916 Oil on canvas . Signed and dated lower right.115 x 75 cm (45,2 x 29,5 in). Inside of the Ansbach castle, which was the residence of the margrave of Ansbach up until the late 18th century. The picture above the fireplace shows the last margrave Karl Alexander of Brandenburg-Ansbach, who sold his land to Prussia later on and then settled in England Expertise: With a letter from the artist to the then owner, military post, presumably from 1917 Merete van Taak, Friederike die galante Schwester der Königin Luise, Droste Verlag 1987, pp. 62f. (with biographic information on the person depicted). Beckert founds the artist's group 'Die Elbier' in 1902, which became part of the Dresden Secession later on. After starting to teach architecture painting at the Technical University in Dresden, Beckert finds, being influenced by Louis Gurlitt, to his actual theme, South German and Saxonian architecture of the 17th and 18th century. He prefers to depict interiors of baroque and late baroque. [AS] Good overall impression.
