The Dutch writer Mary Noothoven van Goor started painting in 1958 after she had a vision when under narcosis. This work was presented at her first exhibition, in 1959 in Café Theo Ruijter, Amsterdam. She was introduced to the Amsterdam art scene by poet Nico Verhoeven and Bert Schierbeek spoke at the opening of the exhibition.
