Georgina Moutray Kyle RUA (1865-1950) THE HARBOUR VOLENDAM, circa 1926-27 signed lower left oil on canvas laid on board 38 by 30cm., 15 by 12in. Born at Craigavad, Co. Down, Georgina Moutray Kyle studied at Colarossi's in Paris during the 1880s, returning afterwards to Ireland with a distinctly modern palette and Post-Impressionist style She became an active committee member of the Belfast Art Society ( later called the Ulster Academy of Arts) and was a dominant persona in Belfast exhibitions in the 1920s and '30s (see Snoddy, page 328). At a retrospective organised last year by Queen's University, Belfast, four other examples of Kyle's Volendam landscapes were included, on loan from the Ulster Museum, the Armagh County Museum and private collections.
