A distinguished woman artist, pioneer abstract painter and committed modernist, Yanna Persaki focused on the geometric structure of pictorial space and the thorough analysis of colour relationships. In A Remembrance of Hydra, the insular landscape has undergone such an extensive and evolutionary process of simplification and reduction of form that it has been finally transformed into an abstract field of prime colours and simple geometric shapes; a splendid minimalist composition emanating a sense of vigour and joie-de-vivre, while glowing with a deep and hard-won feeling of genuine spirituality.
