Italy, Lucania, Poseidonia, (c.530-500 B.C.), silver stater, (6.43 g), obv. Poseidon, naked but for chlamys over shoulder, advancing right brandishing trident in right hand and extending left arm, POS to left, dotted border, rev. Poseidon striding left as on obverse, reversed and incuse POS (retrograde), (cf.S.241, Jameson 331, SNG ANS 604-5, Gorini 3, Dewing 396, HN Italy 1107). Attractively toned, well struck and well centred, light porosity, otherwise nearly extremely fine and very rare.
