ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: A special thank you to Mr. John P. Connolly (George L. Ohrstrom Jr. Librarian) from the National Sporting Library & Museum www.nsl.org in Middleburg, VA USA for assistance with our research on this painting.... his comments appear below: Tue, Jun 10, 2014 (via email) ".............I?ve done a search and here is what I?ve found. First, my library?s race records go back to 1909, so I?m unable to confirm the outcomes of the races you cite from 1907 and 1908. I cannot verify that the trophy in your possession is linked in any way to the 3-mile race at Belmont in 1908. Concerning the four races you cited from 1909 and 1910, I can confirm that all four were steeplechase races and Agent won all four. On the whole, it looks likely that Agent won all eight races, but I cannot definitively confirm that. Race result information was found in the 1909 and 1910 Daily Racing Form monthly retrospective. Via online scans of the regular DRF, I can see that Agent ran on the other dates you sent, but I do not have race results for you. The jockey in all four races was named Kelleher. The owner was Bartlett McLennan. The information you gave as jockey information was in fact Agent?s breeding information. Agent?s sire was George Kessler, his dam was Ricabar. Ricabar?s information is found in the American Stud Book, v. IX (1909) as follows: RICABAR, b., 1896; bred by A.J. Cassatt; owned by J. B. Haggin, Elmendorf Stud, Lexington, Ky. By The Bard. See vol. 8, page 752. 1st dam Rica by Kingfisher. 2d dam * Lady Mentmore by King Tom. Produce ? 1901, b. c. (geld.) Rapacious by George Kessler. 1902, b. c. Agent by George Kessler. 1905, b. c. by Kinley Mack. 1903, barren?1904, foal died. So Agent?s dam, Ricabar, was sired by The Bard. This confirms the 1902 foaling date and the connection to The Bard............." Please note: The Hendrie Memorial Trophy and Hunting Ink Stand with Guide are from the same family family estate.
