Notes

The practice of G.F.M. Schutte was located at the address Bloemendaalseweg 111, Bloemendaal, the Netherlands. Ger Schutte and his spouse Afida Theresa Hendrika (Fien) Veth were art lovers and collectors and hosted the meetings of the Bloemendaalse Kunstkring. This explains why they commissioned Gerrit Rietveld the design of the dental practice and its execution. The photographs of the avant-garde interior, taken by Eva Besnyö for De 8 en Opbouw, show that it stayed complete up to the present day. This is an exceptional case of a part of a Rietveld interior preserved in its original design throughout the years (cf. article on the interior design in De 8 en Opbouw, published in 1940. The image on the right shows the niche and the desk offered here). cf. three Rietveld's sketches of the design, collection of the Centraal Museum Utrecht: https://bit.ly/2WlsXIN cf. letter of Ger Schutte to Gerrit Rietveld, collection of the Centraal Museum Utrecht: https://bit.ly/2DJV2Cg
