Notes

The Geophysic is one of Jaeger LeCoultre’s most emblematic models, embodying the value of robustness, precision and elegance. Created in 1958, it had to meet heavy requirements since it was developed for the International Geophysical Year, a global scientific project involving more than 67 different nationalities, carried out from July 1957 to December 1958. Beyond the scientific interest, this year initiated the resurgence of scientific relationships between researchers from the East and the West. Intended for explorers and scientists, it had to be perfectly legible, waterproof, antimagnetic (the case resisting to 600 Gauss thanks to its antimagnetic capsule), equipped with a chronometer movement. Its ambition was to be able to face all types of challenges, to be carried in extreme conditions: at the North Pole, in submarines or laboratories. About 1,000 copies were reportedly produced between 1957 and the late 1970s. Our model is all the more rare as it is, according to its extract of the archives, one of the first to have been created. A very rare watch that symbolizes a major historical turning point and all the Jaeger LeCoultre’s know-how: a Grail for any collector!
