Item Overview

Description

signed J.F. Cropsey and dated 1886, l.r.; signed J.F. Cropsey, titled An October Day and dated 1886 on the reverse

oil on canvas

Condition Note: Canvas is not lined. SURFACE: in fairly good condition; while there is still good surface texture and retention of details and color is excellent--there are scattered, thinner areas where canvas weave shows through UNDER ULTRA VIOLET: hard to see through old varnish and contrasting pigments (work had been cleaned at one time)--there seem to be repaints to much of sky and stream at lower left

Since we are not professional conservators or restorers, we urge you to consult with a restorer or conservator of your choice who will be better able to provide a detailed, professional report.
