JOSEPH FARQUHARSON DL RA (SCOTTISH 1846-1935), ''RETURNING HOME, WINTER TIME''. Signed lower left, oil on canvas, within a mounted and glazed gilded frame. Titled and attribution inscribed in the mount. Arguably, a leading landscape painter in Scotland at the beginning of the 20th century, Joseph had predilection towards snowy landscapes at twilight with flocks of sheep. It is therefore the favorite theme of the painter and most sought by his collectors. Paintings, with the same theme, exhibited at the Royal Academy, are today in the best English art galleries for very high prices. Similar paintings in the Manchester Art Gallery and Lady Lever Art Gallery (Liverpool), and the Tate gallery. Condition: Under UV light, in good condition overall. 61x40 cm Provenance: The Folly House, Settle (N.Yorkshire).
