Katarzyna Gajewska

Lot 56: Katarzyna Gajewska - Up To The Mountains

Est: €400 EUR - €700 EURPassed

Item Overview

Description

Painting is a reflection of a moment, which navigates between figuration and abstraction. I am in love with heavy structures, which to me represent unfolding experience. The questioning power of human figure is always omnipresent in my work and I find painting as a most emphatic medium. My work explores subjects of femininity, identity and death in the unfolding narrative.

Notes

Katarzyna Gajewska is a Polish artist (b.1978). Gajewska has exhibited her work extensively both in Ireland and internationally over the past number of years, including over twenty solo shows. Her work is featured in private collections across Ireland, England, Germany, the United States and Switzerland. Gajewska graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw with a BA in Fine Art in 2003 and subsequently with an MA in Fine art in 2005 from the same institution. She has regularly completed residencies with the Cill Rialaig Project Co. Kerry between 2005 - 2019. (...) “Katarzyna’s paintings are haunting and emotional, all the more visceral due to her methods of painting. The fact that she uses her hands gives the paintings an amazingly powerful primitive feel. The figures feel as if they are emerging or disappearing. They occupy a peripheral world like ghosts and this gives them a stunning intensity and power” - Irvine Welsh, 2006
