Folio (14 3/4 x 9 3/8 in.; 375 x 238 mm). Engraved additional title, portrait of Charles II of Spain, 19 engraved plates and maps (mostly double-pages or folding), including a world map showing the Americas (p. 192), numerous engravings and woodcuts in the text; some browning and spotting. Contemporary mottled calf, spine gilt; joints and spine rubbed, some loss of gilt motif and lettering.
FIRST EDITION. A fanciful elucidation of the biblical story of the flood, full of delightful illustrations and lively description. The work is dedicated to Charles II, King of Spain, who was only twelve years old when the book was published. The imaginative nature of the text was no doubt intended to appeal to child of his age.
