Two volumes in one, folio (15 1/4 x 10 in.; 387 x 254 mm). 2 engraved title-pages by T. Matham after J. P. Schor and A. Siourtsmas after C. van de Pas, general title-page with engraved vignette, engraved portrait of Kircher, 19 engraved plates and maps (some double or folding), 74 engraved text illustrations and maps, numerous woodcut text illustrations, maps, and diagrams, 5 tables (some double or folding), components of volvelles for pp. 165 and 167 printed on slips and bound in; lacking portrait of Pope Alexander VII, short marginal tears to folding plates at p. 73, vol. 1 and p. 247, vol. 2, neat marginal repair to V3, vol. 1, oxidized holes at Bb3, vol. 1 touching 2 words, and at X4, vol. 2 costing 2 letters, occasional browning and scattered foxing or spotting. Contemporary stiff vellum, yapp edges, title inscribed in gold ink on spine, red-sprinkled edges.
