2 vol. in-4°; 6 h.-t. (rouss. sur les h.-t., nombr. au titre gr., mouill. marg. aux 1ers ff. et pl. du vol. I, pet. trou dans les 2 derniers ff. du vol. II renforcés). - Une des nombreuses rééditions (orig. : 1856) de ce grand traité de cuisine moderne. Illustré de 80 planches num. figurant des suggestions de présentation de mets et d'impressionnantes pièces montées (6 gravées sur acier dont le frontispice, les autres gravées sur bois et comprises dans la pagin.) et un in-texte à la fin du t. II. Dans le t. I, une comparaison des services à la française et à la russe et plusieurs exemples de menus royaux ou impériaux. L'ouvrage est dédié à Guillaume-Auguste III et Augusta de Prusse dont Urbain Dubois (1818-1901) et Émile Bernard (1826-1897) furent durant quelques années les chefs de cuisine. "Ces deux personnages ont, par leur collaboration, relevé et soutenu le prestige de l'art culinaire français à l'étranger dans la seconde moitié du XIXe siècle" (Oberlé). L'ouvrage porte la signature cachetée d'Urbain Dubois certifiant l'édition et comporte la préface de l'édition originale, de la 2e et "de la dernière" édition. - Réf. Cp. CONDITIONS OF SALE
The purchaser shall pay, strictly cash, the hammer price, in €, together with a premium of
25 % (27% for those operating by Drouot Live and Invaluable), eventually plus the resale
tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from € 2000 on, only for original art and if the
author died less than 70 years ago.
The auction follows the order indicated by the catalogue. The biddings start at about 80 %
of the lowest estimate and each bid must be ± 10% higher than the previous one. In case of
a dispute the lot will be called again.
The auctioneer has the right to refuse a bid, and this without further explanation.
Each buyer by making a bid acknowledges the conditions of sale and the fact that he has
inspected the purchased item.
The auctioneer has the right to split a lot or join several lots.
Lots with two or more titles, series or periodicals, or lots with a mention "n.c." and ''sold
w.a.f.''are not collated and cannot be returned.
Each buyer is supposed to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission. Each
bidder should inspect the lots during the exhibition. Under no circumstances can an item,
once sold, be returned. For lots acquired through absentee bidding, remarks or complaints,
also concerning the authenticity of the items, should be formulated within 2 weeks after the
auction, and in case of shipping within 2 weeks after reception. After that delay no item
can be returned.
In case purchasers are prevented from attending the sale personally, the auctioneer will
execute their bids in €, without extra charge (except the premium). Bidding orders must
reach the auctioneer at least 24 hours before the sale. In the event of identical bids, the
earliest received will take precedence. Bidding by telephone will only be accepted for items
with minimum estimate higher than € 250. Reservation of a telephone line must be made at
least 2 days before the auction. The auctioneer cannot be held responsible for any problem
due to difficulties with telephone connections.
Bidders unknown to the auctioneer, can be asked to submit credentials and/or a guarantee.
Lots purchased will not be delivered to the buyer until he has made payment in full of the
total amount due.

If a lot is not paid in full within 2 weeks, the auctioneer can charge an interest at 12 % per
year. If full payment has not been made after one month, the auctioneer can rescind the sale
of the lot(s) at any other auction. All charges being at the expense of the defaulting buyer.
Moreover, all conditions, as stated above in Dutch are valid.
The Belgian law dated 15/08/2020 transposes European Directives 2018/843 and 2015/849,
whose aim is to prevent the use of the financial system for the purposes of money laundering
or the financing of terrorism. This law requires all players in the arts and antiques businesses,
including auction houses, to request and register the identity of all parties involved in any
transaction whose value is €10,000 or more. If a party concerned is a company, we are also
required to request information on the company statutes or the identity of the ultimate
beneficiary. These data remain exclusively in the possession of the auction house, and will be
processed in strict compliance with the General Data Protection legislation.
