Description

Large Safet Zec Aquatint Mezzotint Drypoint Etching. Very limited edition. Signed and numbered in pencil by the artist. Measures 72"x57"x3". Safet Zec, the painter and engraver from Bosnia-Herzegovina, was born in Rogatica in 1943. At the age of twelve, he dedicated himself to the art of painting and drawing in which he showed a great talent. Upon the graduation from the Art High School in Sarajevo, he continued his studies in Belgrade where he graduated from the Academy of the Fine Arts in 1969. He obtained his postgraduate diploma in 1972. He became exponent of the new orientation called "The Poetic Realism". At the beginning of 90's he was the one of the most important artists in the country and its representative on many international exhibitions. He had lived and worked in Belgrade until 1989. Following few years he spent in Sarajevo. When the war started in 1992 he left his country. In 1992 Safet Zec came to Udine, Italy. All of his works were left in his studio in Sarajevo. In Italy Zec had to rebuild his identity. He started to work on new paintings, drawings and engravings. In the 1994 he showed his new works at he first museum exhibition together with a few old ones from a German gallery. He won the Grand Prix "Alpe Adria" for drawing in Ljubljana in 1996. The monograph "Safet Zec" was promoted in Ljubljana in 1998 on the occasion of his exhibition "Paintings, drawings and Engravings 1992-1998". He exhibits currently in Italy, France and throughout the world. Today he lives and works in Venice. Safet Zec has prepared over 70 solo exhibitions in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in large cities around the world. He is also a member of the Association of Visual Artists of Bosnia and Herzegovina. He has won over 20 awards and is acknowledged for his work. In 2007 he was awarded with the Order of the Arts and Literature of France. Provenance: The Lynn Peri Collection
