Born in South Africa, Abramson immigrated to Israel in 1961. He studied at the Chelsea School of Art in London and started teaching at the Bezalel Academy of Art and Design, Jerusalem in 1984. He was head of the Fine Arts department at Bezalel from 1992 to 1999. From 1975, he has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions, both in Israel and abroad. His artistic oeuvre relates to both the physical and the political landscape of Israel. In past series, Abramson has depicted plants and bushes detached from the outdoor landscape they normally inhabit. The "Rose of Jericho" originates from the deserts of Israel, between Jerusalem and the Dead Sea. It was during the middle-ages, that Crusaders first discovered this plant and noted its remarkable ability to be "brought back to life" after giving every appearance of being dead and lifeless.
