"A complete biography of 18th century Admiral Cornwallis by a direct descendant. The account covers his entire life from Midshipman in 1775 through The Second Blockade of Brest & his Final Retirement. Cornwallis. though often overshadowed by his elder brother the Marquis Cornwallis of American Revolution fame, commanded the main fleet of Britain during the life & death struggle with Napoleon during 1799-1806."

Sir William Cornwallis, (1744-1819) was a Royal Navy officer. He was the brother of Charles, the 1st Marquis, British commander at Yorktown. Cornwallis took part in a number of decisive battles including the Siege Of Louisbourg in 1758 and the Battle Of The Saintes but is best known as a friend of Lord Nelson and as the commander-in-chief of the Channel Fleet during the Napoleonic Wars. He is depicted in the Horatio Hornblower novel, "Hornblower & The Hotspur."

Illustrated. Frontis is corner-clipped/"Mickey Mouse Library" Stamp of Singapore on title page/scattered foxing to front & rear endpapers, o/w internally tight & unmarked, pages slightly toning but not brittle. Binding Exterior: general handling wear with blue paint applied to considerable rubbing marks & scattered spotting to outside fore-edges but all lettering readable (see scan(s). NO REMAINDER MARK.
