Description

LIVINGSTONE, David (1813-1873). Autograph letter signed "David Livingstone" to Thomas Clegg, requesting that he forward several books, including a work on cotton planting in America. Hadley Green, 21 July 1857. 3 pages, folded sheet (7 x 4 1/4 inches; 180x110 mm). Condition : remnants of prior mounting on verso, usual folds. Written shortly after his triumphant return to Britain after discovering Victoria Falls, he writes: "Will you kindly forward to this address at your convenience the work of Roles, and the American cotton planters Manual the work of Dr. Royle. I believe one can get it in London. My brother will accompany me when I visit Manchester to get some knowledge of machinery too and I shall be obliged if you can furnish him with a bed as I have an invitation fromn the Mayor. Please send your own tract too..."
