This expressive work by Spanish painter Menchu Lamas depicts an abstracted figure, sitting in front of a green background and reaching for a cornet. Her bold, iconic paintings are characterized by broad brushstrokes, primary colors and a predominantly large-scale square format. They are instantly recognizable for their affinities to the Pop Art and CoBrA movements and are characterized by a reductive iconography based on simple forms such as torsos, hands and circles.
The painting by Menchu Lamas is signed verso 'Menchu Lamas' and is in very good condition showing only minimal signs of wear. It is framed by wooden lats. The stretcher measures 220 x 200 cm.
Menchu Lamas (born 1954)
Spanish painter Menchu Lamas was born 1954 in Vigo, Spain. During the 1980's she joined the Gaelic artist group called 'Atlantica'. Influenced by the Pop Art and CoBrA movement, her works are sought after on the contemporary art market and can be found in museums like the Museo Español de Arte Contemporáneo in Madrid, der Fundació La Caixa in Barcelona, the Thomas Foundation in Munich as well as the Fundación Juan March.
