This collection of sketches and watercolors appears to be of early works from the 1930's, comprised mainly of the birds which were such an important subject for Graves at this period. These include not only domestic and exotic birds, but also animals such as oxen and horses. These works illustrate Graves' intensity of observation and his attempts to capture the essence of his subjects, often with an economy of line.
