Description

Item Description

This exquisite silk screen painting by Harrison Begay, a distinguished Navajo artist, captures the serene and timeless essence of Native American culture. The artwork depicts a young Native American boy gracefully riding a horse, enveloped in the muted, earthy tones that echo the vast and tranquil Southwestern landscapes.

**Harrison Begay (1917-2012)**
Harrison Begay, one of America's most celebrated contemporary Native American painters, was born in 1917 on the Navajo Reservation near White Cone Trading Post in Arizona. His artistic journey began in earnest when he studied arts and crafts at the Indian School in Santa Fe from 1934 to 1940. His education was briefly interrupted by his service in the armed forces from 1942 to 1945.

In 1951, Harrison Begay co-founded Tewa Enterprises in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This initiative aimed to bring hand silk-screened examples of Indian art to a broader audience, while also fostering greater appreciation for the works of other Native American artists.

**Artistic Style:**
Harrison Begay is renowned for his impeccable fine line drawing and the exceptional control evident in his work. His signature muted color palette is a hallmark of his style, reflecting the subtle and harmonious hues of the Southwestern desert landscapes.

This original silk screen painting is a testament to Begay's mastery and his dedication to preserving and sharing the rich cultural heritage of the Navajo people through his art. It is a timeless piece that beautifully conveys the tranquil and profound connection between the Native American boy and his horse.
