More About this Item

Description: 1 March 1835 33 GIRONDE. BORDEAUX. Action de F1000. black. #315. No 140. A little foxing. Very large format. The Dronne is a beautiful river in Périgord, southwest France, which flows from Limousin into the Dordogne near Liberac. The rivers of the area have always been used for transport of wine and other farm produce, and we understand why this company was formed to improve access. It received a 99 year concession for navigation on the river by Royal Ordinance in 1828. This piece has a superb vignette, with a château in the distance, and the river flowing through farms. We even see a fine, ingenious, scheme (alternative to locks) for lifting boats by horse-power from the river to a canal. Fine, delicately-drawn share. Rarity 9.
