More About this Item

Description: 3 July 1964 KATHMANDU. 6% Development Bond of Rs. 1,000, specimen. green, red, black. Issued in Nepalese Rupees. Printed in London but the text is entirely in Nepali. The bond comes with a complete professional translation into English. The loan was issued to modernize the country. At that time, Nepal was still a Kingdom (it remained so until 2008). Bordered by China and India, Nepal is home to eight of the world's ten highest mountains, including Mount Everest. Most interestingly, the bond depicts Mount Everest with a silhouette of two climbers heading for the 8848 meter high rooftop of the world. We believe them to be Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, the two men who made the first official ascent of Everest in 1953.
