Item Overview

Description

Catherine Ryan makes detailed abstract cityscapes using objects collected from daily life. These repurposed materials tell a story when meshed together through the primal medium of paint. The titles are often found within the piece itself, for example in New Kids, a dancing figure with text informs the energy of this painting.

Her palette is bright and vibrant and each colour is bleeding into the next, expressing the interconnectedness of all things.

Catherine’s technique evolved from diverse influences including a background in glass design, a love of painting, sculpture, street art and the readymade.

One of her pieces, Mort-gage, is in the Copperhouse Gallery permanent collection.

Catherine is a professional member of Visual Artists Ireland. She has exhibited widely in Ireland including the RHA, RUA RED, LCGA and in group shows in the UK, France and the USA.
