Notes

Nici Le Gear is a self-taught acrylic and oil artist based on the Limerick-Clare border, where she creates from her charming attic studio. After years spent in UX design and lecturing, Nici returned to her roots in Limerick in 2012 to start a family and reignite her lifelong passion for art. A pivotal moment—the sudden loss of someone close—propelled her to take the leap into pursuing art full-time, asking herself, “What am I waiting for?” Nici’s work captures the fleeting beauty of Ireland’s west coast, from the rugged drama of its shorelines to the quiet charm of Limerick City’s streets. Her paintings are a celebration of the landscapes she calls home, inviting viewers to bring a piece of Ireland’s natural and urban beauty into their own spaces. Art has always been a part of Nici’s life. As a child, she was rarely without a sketchbook in hand, dreaming of one day attending art college. Though life led her down a different path—studying Computer Science at the University of Limerick—her love for creativity never waned. After years away from the canvas, she returned to painting, rediscovering the joy and fulfillment it brings. For Nici, painting is more than a practice; it’s a way to connect with the world and find her flow. Nici’s work is deeply influenced by the coast, where she finds solace in the ever-changing interplay of sea and rivers. Her collection reflects the dual nature of these waters—their raw power and tranquil beauty—offering viewers a sense of rejuvenation and perspective. “In the presence of the coast,” she says, “your worries become mere grains of sand in the grand scheme of existence.” Nici’s work evokes a sense of place and belonging. Nici offers both original paintings, framed in handcrafted wooden frames, and museum-quality prints, making her art accessible to a wide audience. Through her work, she invites you to experience the beauty of Ireland’s west coast and find a moment of peace in its landscapes. When she’s not painting, Nici can be found exploring the coastlines and city streets that inspire her, always with a sketchbook nearby, ready to capture the next fleeting moment of beauty.
