Van de Groenekan (1904 - 1994) assisted Rietveld from 1917 onwards, when he was only 13 years old. In 1924 he started manufacturing the furniture Rietveld designed. In fact most genuine 'Rietveld chairs' were produced by Van de Groenekan. With an original newspaper clipping from the Haagsche Courant, 8th of august 1987, showing former owner, the legendary avant-garde art dealer John Vloemans, sitting in this chair in his antiquarian bookshop in The Hague. It was in this very chair Richard Meier, Aldo Rossi and other prominent friends and clients got the chance to sit in a Rietveld chair for the first time.
