PROPERTY FROM A SWISS COLLECTION
The recto of this work is drawn after Cheval Turc à l'écurie by Géricault, in the Louvre (fig. 1); the verso is a rediscovered drawing, probably also inspired by a visit to the Louvre. Venturi had seen the recto of the drawing only in reproduction and had excluded it from his 1936 catalogue. On the other hand, Chappuis (loc. cit.) knew the recto and he had referenced it in his catalogue raisonné but it seems that he did not know the existence of the verso, which is not referenced it in his catalogue raisonné.
