More About this Item

Description: 23 February 1899 SOFIA. Action de F1000 or. green, yellow, red. #1400. No 1368. Varna, on the west coast of the Black Sea, was the most important trading centre between the Danube and the Bosporus, but surprisingly had no proper port until 1899. There was only an open anchorage. This private company was formed to build the port. Liquidated 1924 when the port was taken over by the city of Varna. Extremely decorative, with fine vignettes of the port under construction and in use, in a fine border with cargo, train, ship and more. Text in Bulgarian and French.
