Bolette Marie Harboe (the sitter) married Johan Fr. Lindencrone, a Lord-in-Waiting and a wealthy landowner, in 1768. In 1787 Juel painted their portraits, which were only split up in the second half of the last century when the Berg brothers sold the present work to the present owner. For the portrait of Bolette Marie's husband see E. Poulsen (under Literature, vol. I., p. 128, cat. no. 413, vol. II, p. 254, no. 413, reproduced).
