Description
Large ink on board representing a witches' sabbath by Istvan Arpad Rev (Hungary 1898 - U.S.A. 1977). Approx. 17 x 22 inches unframed, 26 x 32 inches framed.Drawing is signed middle left and dated 1929 and set in a superb gilt frame. Arpad was a successful poster and print artist in Hungary, Germany, Italy and the United States.All the traditional elements associated with witches' activities in medieval times are present here: cauldron with a magic brew, the brooms, goat, black cats, bats and owls. A manis seen hanging from the gallows in the distance. Witches flying naked in the moonlit night. Eroticism. Bizarre creatures from the realm beyond. Originating from the mysticism-soaked land of Budapest, Arpad brings a special, early 20th century understanding to the spectral in this intricately detailed work.

Very fine condition. No flaws or damage. No sign of past restoration. No inpainting under UV examination. The frame has some nicks, flaws and wear.
