More About this Item

Description: 1 December 1872 NEW YORK. 7% Bono de 1000 Pesos en oro. Serie C. blue, black. No 862. Folds and some discolouration. The loan was raised in New York by Cubans wanted to establish a republic independent of Spain. Repayment would be made one year after a Republican government was established in the entire island. This, of course, did not happen until 1900, after the Spanish-American war, so it is unlikely that the bondholder received his money. Map of Cuba, also on the reverse. Lady with arms of Cuba, and an Indian lady carrying fruit. Scarce top denomination.
