Aquarelle sur papier signé au bas droite R.Richard. Né le 1er décembre 1895 à La Chaux-de-Fonds, en Suisse, René Richard et sa famille s’installent au Canada en 1909. Dès l’âge de 18 ans, il tombe amoureux de la nature et des forêts canadiennes et reporte ses randonnées à travers ses dessins. Il repart en Europe et en 1927, rencontre Clarence Gagnon. Ces échanges influencent grandement la carrière de l’artiste, qui considère alors un retour au Québec afin d’y développer une carrière alliant sa passion pour l’art et son amour des grands espaces. C’est 10 ans plus tard, en 1937, qu’il se décident à retourner au Québec, et s’installe à Baie St-Paul. Rapidement il devient un pilier de l’art au Québec exposant à la Galerie l’Art Français, devenue par la suite la Galerie Valentin, où il obtient de grands succès. Il concrétise sa renommée au fil des années, demeurant grandement admiré et respecté pour sa technique et son approche expressionniste.

Watercolor on paper signed lower right R.Richard. Born on December 1, 1895 in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, René Richard and his family moved to Canada in 1909. By the age of 18, he had fallen in love with nature and the Canadian forests, recording his hikes in his drawings. He returned to Europe and, in 1927, met Clarence Gagnon. These exchanges greatly influenced the artist's career, and he considered returning to Quebec to develop a career combining his passion for art and his love of the great outdoors. It was 10 years later, in 1937, that he decided to return to Quebec, and settled in Baie St-Paul. He quickly became a pillar of Quebec art, exhibiting at the Galerie l'Art Français, which later became the Galerie Valentin, where he achieved great success. He built his reputation over the years, remaining widely admired and respected for his technique and expressionist approach.

Conditions

A buyer's premium of 20% will be added to the
hammer price of each lot and is payable by the buyer as
part of the purchase price.
Lots are sold to the highest bidder. In case of dispute, the
decision of the auctioneer will be final. Lots should be picked
up immediately after the sale. Purchasers must pay for their
lots before delivery. An interest charge of two (2) % per month
will be charged to buyers on all overdue accounts. Payment by cash, cheque, money-order (CAN or US currency) and credit cards Visa and MasterCard are accepted for payments up to five thousand (5000) Canadian Dollars.
All bids are in Canadian funds. Bids in US funds will be
converted at the prevailing exchange rate.
Should a purchaser wish to submit an item for expertization,
the auctioneer must be notified and the lot paid at the time
of sale. If the lot proves to be not as described, the purchaser's
money shall be repaid in full.
Material described as having defects are not returnable on
account of condition. No lots may be returned by persons
who have had the opportunity to examine the material
before the sale.
Any returns for whatever reason must be made within thirty
(30) days of receipt of lot(s). Champagne Auctions are
obligated to pay all consignement lots within this amount
of time.
The auctioneer reserves the right to group two (2) or more
lots and also to withdraw any lot or lots from sale.
The placing of a bid shall constitute acceptance of the
foregoing conditions of sale. Bids will be executed by the
auctioneer.
Bidding increments are at the discretion of the auctioneer.
Mail, fax, phone or online bids are entered on a first bid
received basis. In the event of a tie bid, the first bid received
has priority.

Shipping Terms

Canadian Customers Taxes

The G.S.T. of 5 % for Canadian
residents and the Q.S.T. of 9.975 % for Quebec residents ( or

applicable to all successful bids as part of the purchase price.
