Description: ROCKINGHAM CO., VIRGINIA DECORATED STONEWARE "BLACKBURY" SQUAT POT, salt glazed, bulbous form with two applied grooved handles. Brushed cobalt three-bloom tulips on each side, incised script "Blackbury" on one side. Attributed to Andrew Coffman or one of his sons, Beldor area of eastern Rockingham Co., Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.
Dimensions: 8" H, 5 5/8" D rim.
Date: 1845-1860.
Condition Report: Excellent condition with outstanding color and contrast, light hairline across the base and up the left side of decoration below inscription, small firing spall above base on other side.
Literature: Closely parallels Evans/Suter - A Great Deal of Stone & Earthenware, p. 37, fig. 19.
Provenance: Recently discovered in New Jersey.
