RUDOLPH BELARSKI (American, 1900-1983) Aces, pulp cover, c. 1932 Oil on canvas 30 x 21 in. Signed lower right The format of this piece, with its miniature inset portrait, dates it as an early thirties issue of Aces. The title was originally published in 1928 and stopped in 1932, but was picked up again by another editor in 1937. A number of cover paintings were re-used. This scene was reprinted on Aces, Winter 1937, but the art editor put text on top of the portrait -- bad luck for the celebrated aviator. From the Estate of Charles Martignette.
