Segment drawings are parts of or with occasional added details from larger drawings. These larger drawings are occasionally the basis for the linear aspects of my paintings.

Samuel Paul Walsh, born in Wimbledon, London, in 1951 to Irish parents, was educated in London and Limerick at Villiers Secondary School. He lived in Limerick from 1968 to 1990 before settling in Co. Clare. A Villiers Roll of Honour member, he studied at the Limerick School of Art, Mary Immaculate College, and earned an MFA from the National College of Art & Design, Dublin. A key figure in Limerick’s art scene, he helped establish the Limerick Exhibition of Visual Art (EV+A/eva international) and founded Quadrant, an annual exhibition for young artists (1993–2007). Passionate about contemporary drawing, he founded the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing in 1987, later gifted to the Limerick City Gallery of Art. In 2021, he curated an exhibition marking its 30th anniversary. Elected to Aosdána in 1997, he served on its Toscaireacht multiple times. He is a Fellow of the Ballinglen Arts Foundation and has held international artist residencies in Switzerland, France, the USA, Germany, and Spain. He taught Life Drawing at Limerick School of Art & Design (1987–1997) and was a visiting lecturer at several institutions. His work and lectures focus on the role of drawing in contemporary art.
