More About this Item

Description: December 1915 HUNGARY. BUDAPEST. Actie 200 Kronen. green, grey. No 10341. The Romans reaped the health benefits of hot springs here, but it was during the 16th- and 17th- century Turkish occupation that the bath culture was developed. Some of these spas are still in operation. There are very many thermal spa baths in Budapest, but the St.Lukas bath is the only hot-water mud pool in the city. Under the city's hills there is a system of caves with thermal waters gushing from 80 thermal springs which supply 12 spas with 70 million liters of water daily. Great underprint of an aerial view of the baths, and very decorative border with views of the baths, naked ladies by one of the springs, etc. Text in Hungarian and German.
