Treasure Island. London, Paris & New York: Cassell & Company, Limited, 1883

In 8s (7 1/2 x 4 3/4 in.; 190 x 121 mm). Half-title, frontispiece map printed in 4 colors, 4-page publisher's advertisement at the end coded "5R.1083" and incorrectly listing Treasure Island with 304 pages, the number "7" stamped in the pagination after the page was printed, "Dead Man's Chest" not capitalized on pages 2 and 7. Publisher's sage green cloth (McKay second, third or fourth binding), spine lettered gilt, black-coated endpapers, edges plain. Full maroon solander case.

CATALOGUE NOTE

First edition, first issue, an exceptionally fine copy of Stevenson's classic adventure. The novel was first published under the title The Sea Cook in the children's periodical, Young Folks, between October 1881 and January 1882. Stevenson's editor at Cassell changed the title to Treasure Island.
